The brake fluid needed for a 2010 Chevy Equinox is dot 4. Changing the brake fluid in a vehicle can range from simple to more complex, depending on whether you need to bleed the brakes. If you only need to top up the fluid, locate the intake port under the hood. Unscrew the cap and check the container, which should have MIN and FULL lines. Fill it to a level between the two lines, preferably close to the full line. Replace the cap, and your task is complete. However, if you do need to bleed the brakes, start by lifting the car using a jack and removing the tires. Begin with the back wheels and find the bleeder valve on each wheel. Attach a piece of rubber tubing to the valve, open it, and press the brake pedal slowly. Repeat the process until the fluid flows into a bucket and no more air comes out. Move on to the next tire and continue until you have done all the wheels. Reattach the tires and refill the brake fluid as needed.
