The 2001 Ford Focus can take either DOT 3 or DOT 4 brake fluid, such as Prestone 12 Ounce DOT 3 or Valvoline 32 Ounce DOT 3, DOT 4. For best braking performance on your Focus, Ford suggests using Super DOT 4, but you can use either option. Brake fluid works to assist you when you press the brake pedal by generating the necessary pressure to bring your vehicle to a stop. It's a good idea to periodically check the brake fluid level to avoid any issues with the brakes.

The brake fluid container can be found in the engine compartment, towards the rear by the left side of the car. Remember to top it up with dot 3 brake fluid.
