If you need to add more coolant to your 2004 Ford Explorer, I suggest using the green coolant specifically designed for American vehicles. This is the coolant that originally comes in the car and it is safe to use for topping up the system. If you have recently had your coolant flushed by a mechanic other than the dealership, it's important to find out what type of coolant was used. We do not recommend mixing different types of coolant as it can diminish the cooling efficiency and cause rusting of components in your system. If you are unsure about the type of coolant in your car and it is not green, you can add distilled water temporarily. While this may cause the coolant to boil slightly easier, it won't cause any damage until you can confirm the correct coolant for your vehicle.

The best coolant for a 2004 Ford Explorer is the universal prime green full strength silicate antifreeze produced by Prestone.
