To properly maintain your 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, it's essential to use specific weights of gear oil for the front and rear differentials. Make sure to identify the type of differential you have, as this will determine the oil type and capacity needed. For the S4WD GL-5, you'll need 3.0 pints of 80W-90 oil in the front differential. The 9.25 RG SL136 requires a bit more at 3.6 pints of 75W-90 oil. In the rear differential, always use 75W-90 oil, but the capacity varies depending on the differential type. The 10.5 RG SL136 needs 5.5 pints, the 8.6 RG SL136 requires 4.2 pints, and the 9.5 RG SL136 takes 5.5 pints. If you're unsure about your differentials, check the VIN sticker on the front driver's side door jamb for more information.
