A common electrical issue with the 2003 Chevy Silverado resembles a malfunctioning battery and alternator. Owners may notice that various components stop working, such as automatic door locks, the radio, dashboard lights, gauges, and the driver information display. The truck is also prone to experiencing blower motor problems over time, and the CD player might stop accepting CDs. The dash backlighting can be adjusted, but there is a risk of wiring issues leading to a "blackout" dashboard. Turning on the truck may result in the speedometer, oil pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge, and other indicators failing. Most of these problems stem from deteriorating wiring as the vehicle gets older. A faulty electrical control module situated behind and in the center of the Silverado's dash could also be responsible for these issues.

I received my Dad's 2003 Silverado as an inheritance. As I was driving to the post office to pick up my title, a fire broke out in the dashboard, causing smoke and flames, and melting part of the dashboard! The fire department had to extinguish the fire.
