The 2018 base model Dodge Challenger has different fuel requirements based on its engine size and type of transmission. The V6 engine and V8 engine with automatic transmission need regular unleaded fuel with 87 octane. On the other hand, the V8 engine with manual transmission and the larger V8 engine require premium unleaded fuel with 91 octane. All three engines can also run on e85 flex fuel if preferred. Contrary to popular belief, using higher octane fuel does not offer significant benefits for your engine or vehicle performance. Claims that higher octane fuel improves gas mileage or keeps fuel injectors and pumps cleaner are considered false. The only vehicles that truly need higher octane fuel are luxury or performance cars with turbocharged engines or those designed for higher combustion rates.
