As with all electronic systems, the electronic parking brake in the 2017 GMC Acadia may encounter various issues. If the brake is not working at all, particularly in areas with uneven terrain, be sure to check the fuse. A common problem specific to this vehicle is the parking brake failing to release when the button is pressed, displaying a "Service Parking Brake" message. This issue could be due to overloading the vehicle; try having passengers exit and unload heavy cargo. This quick fix may help you resume driving immediately; otherwise, contact a mechanic for assistance. Typically, this problem occurs in vehicles with fewer than 10,000 miles, and dealerships have linked it to a "software anomaly" in the parking brake module of the onboard computer, which can be corrected by updating the system.

One issue with the parking brake system in the 2017 GMC Acadia is that the parking brake light may flash because of a malfunction in the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).

Earlier today during my commute to work, I experienced a similar issue with my car having 109,000 kilometers on it, leading me to suspect it might be the brake pads causing the problem. Just recently, I decided to experiment and tried a different approach. I started the engine by pressing the brake pedal, then I pressed the brake switch with my foot still on the brake, although not all the way to the floor. When nothing changed, I pushed the pedal all the way down and tried the switch again. As expected, this action activated the sensor, released the brake (which I could feel on the pedal), and the warning light turned off.

Step on the brake pedal firmly until it reaches the floor, and then press the parking brake button. When the parking brake engages, you will see the brake or park indicator flashing. Release the foot brake and repeat the process; both indicators will turn off once the brakes are properly set.
