The 2011 Chevy Impala comes with a 4-speed transmission that has faced significant criticism for its failures and poor design. Despite numerous owners experiencing complete breakdowns of the transmission between 30,000 to 95,000 miles, Chevy has not issued a recall. Problems with the transmission cause the car to suddenly stop moving while driving or move at very slow speeds that make it almost impossible to drive. Instead of issuing a recall, most customers have had to spend between $1,600 to $3,000 on parts and labor to replace the transmission or end up getting rid of their vehicle altogether. These transmission issues seem to affect Impalas made between 2006 and 2011. Warning signs of a failing transmission include lower engine speeds, trouble shifting gears, and slipping gears.
