Some Subaru Forester vehicles from 2017 and later have a known issue with faulty liftgates. Owners have reported difficulty opening the hatch using the key fob or inside hatch release button. Although the liftgate can usually be manually unlocked, the automatic power function may not work. This problem typically occurs early on, often within the first 5,000 miles or shortly after purchase. Some drivers have also experienced issues with the liftgate failing to latch properly and getting stuck in the open position. Repairing the problem may involve replacing the load sensor, fixing latch pins, and repairing electrical wiring. Once the latch has been fixed, it's recommended to reset the liftgate by fully opening and then closing it to recalibrate. Most of these adjustments should be covered under warranty.
