In the 2006 GMC Sierra 1500, the recommended oil type and capacity is 5W-30 and 6 quarts, respectively. Using high-quality oil is essential for the engine to operate smoothly. Eventually, you will encounter problems with the oil. Engine knocking noises may arise as a result. Poor-quality oil can lead to engine failure. An unpleasant burning odor is a common issue that should be addressed promptly to prevent a potential explosion. Additionally, you may notice decreased gas mileage. It is important to replace the oil every 5,000 to 10,000 miles to prevent engine problems. Failure to do so can result in engine malfunctions.
In 2006, all engine versions for the GMC Sierra 1500 require 5W30 synthetic oil. Here are the oil capacities for the different available engines: the 4.3L V6=4.5 quarts, the 4.8L V8=6 quarts, the 5.3L V8 (engines with codes B B, B L33 1, T D, T T, and Flex)=6 quarts, and the 6.0L V8=6 quarts. If you have a 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 HD with a 6.0L V8 engine, it will also need 6 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil.
