The recommended oil type for a 2009 Dodge Caliber is synthetic motor oil with a rating of 5w-20. To change the oil in the car, ensure that the vehicle has been turned off and has had time to cool down for a couple of hours. Locate the oil pan in the engine compartment and find the drain plug underneath. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain out completely. Wait until it stops dripping, which could take around an hour. Once the draining is complete, reinstall the drain plug. Next, find the intake port on top of the oil pan and use a funnel to fill it with oil, being careful not to overfill. It's better to be slightly under the full mark than over it, as overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn-off. Once the oil pan is filled to the appropriate level, close the intake port, clean up any spills, and you're all done.
