The recommended oil for the 2012 Jeep Liberty is 5W-20. It's important to regularly change the oil, typically every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. Neglecting oil changes can lead to engine problems. Using high-quality oil is essential for engine performance. If the oil is not maintained, issues like a strong burning odor may occur, indicating a need for immediate inspection to prevent potential engine damage. Poor quality oil can cause engine failure, resulting in decreased gas mileage and potential engine knocking sounds.

Jeep suggests utilizing 5w-20 full synthetic oil in the 2012 Jeep Liberty for best performance.
I use Mazola vegetable oil of all kinds.
I am the original owner of a 2012 Liberty KK 4WD, and the recommended oil is 5w20 Synthetic Blend. I typically change the oil every 6-7 thousand miles, or twice a year. There were a couple of times where I went a full year between changes, but I only drove 5K during those periods. I have consistently used high-quality oil, occasionally opting for full synthetic. Despite being 13 years old now, the vehicle has only 66K miles on it and runs smoothly and quietly. I plan to service the transmission this spring. Just a heads up - Uniroyal Loredo tires are a great match for this vehicle, especially in snowy conditions.
Synthetic 5W20" is a type of motor oil with a specific viscosity grade recommended for certain vehicles.
Which oil should I use for a 2012 Jeep Liberty Jet Edition? I'm getting mixed answers online - some say 5w-30, others say 5w-20. Not sure which one to go for. I bought this vehicle recently and it has 85,000 miles on it.
