The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee takes sae 5w-20 oil with a 6-quart capacity. To change the oil, start by ensuring the car has been off and parked for a couple of hours to let it cool down. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the engine compartment. Place a bucket under the plug, remove it, and let the oil drain until it stops dripping, which could take an hour. Then, return the drain plug, find the oil intake port on top of the pan, and use a funnel to fill it to the full mark without overfilling to avoid leaks. Close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're done.

You need 6 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic oil, not 5W-20.

The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses a synthetic blend oil with a viscosity of SAE 5W-20, except for the 6.4L V8 engine which needs a 0W-40 oil. The amount of oil needed depends on the engine size. The 3.6-L V6 engine requires 6 quarts, the 5.7L V8 and 6.4-L V8 need 7 quarts, and the 3.0-Liter DOHC Ecodiesel V-6 requires 8.2 quarts.

The Jeep Eco Diesel V6 3L is recommended to use 05W-40 full synthetic engine oil of high quality, like Petronas brand.

The 2016 Grand Cherokee Summit 3.6 L requires 6 quarts of oil, as stated. The issue lies in conflicting information: the oil fill cap indicates 0w/20, while the manual specifies 5w/20. The Jeep service department insists on following the cap's label exclusively. In my view, 0w/20 is suitable for winter, while 5w/20 is better for summer. I opt for full synthetic oil in both scenarios.

The type and amount of oil needed for an oil change in your 2016 Grand Cherokee vary based on the engine it has. There were four different engines available for that model year, each with specific oil requirements. For example, the 3.0l EcoDiesel engine in your Grand Cherokee requires 7.8 liters of Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 oil during an oil change.
