In 2012, Toyota recommends using SAE 0w-20 oil for the RAV4, but you can also opt for SAE 5w-20. Remember not to mix different oil types; always drain the engine before switching. The oil capacity is 4.5 quarts or 4.2 liters for the 2.5 L 4Cyl engine, while the 3.5L V6 can hold up to 6.4 quarts. Follow the manufacturer's specifications when changing the oil and filter. Make sure to choose the right type of oil and look for the API certification seal, indicating it's approved for use in Toyota vehicles. With conventional oil, change every 3500 miles, and for full synthetic, replace the oil and filter every 5500 to 7000 miles.

For a 2012 Toyota RAV4 3.5L, you should use Toyota Genuine Motor Oil or an equivalent 5W-30 oil. For the 2.5L engine, go with Toyota Genuine Motor Oil or an equivalent 0W-20. If you can't find 0W-20, you can use 5W-20 temporarily but switch back to 0W-20 at the next oil change. The oil capacity is 4.5 quarts (4.2 liters) for the 2.5L engine and 6.4 quarts (6 liters) for the 3.5L engine in the 2012 Toyota RAV4.
