The 2017 Ford Explorer with a 3.5L engine features a screw-on canister with an M22 X1.50 thread pattern. To remove it, you'll need a 3/8" wrench or ratchet. The filters for this vehicle are positioned at the bottom of the engine near the oil pan and are constructed from aluminum. These filters have a filter medium designed to eliminate contaminants from the oil and prevent them from re-entering the engine. If you use synthetic oil, it's recommended to change the oil and filter every 7,500 miles in your Explorer.
