In the past, the recommended power steering fluid for the 2006 Ford Explorer was Mercon, but now it's Mercon V for both the 4.0 L V6 and the 4.6 L V8 engines. Approximately 1 quart of this hydraulic fluid is needed for the vehicle, which helps in steering by making it easier to turn the wheels. It is suggested to change the fluid for the Explorer every 75,000 to 100,000 miles or every 2 years, whichever comes first. The price of the fluid ranges from $4 to $5 per quart, depending on the brand and store where you purchase it.
