The check engine light in a 2019 Ford Ranger might turn on if there's a vacuum or emissions leak, which could be as simple as a loose gas cap. More serious issues in the Ranger could include a faulty O2 sensor or a failing catalytic converter. If you see a sudden decrease in fuel economy, it may be a sign that the O2 sensor needs replacement. This sensor monitors the oxygen levels in the exhaust, providing important data to the engine's combustion system for proper air/fuel ratio. The catalytic converter helps convert carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide but can get clogged over time. When the computer detects abnormal emission levels, the check engine light comes on. If any of these processes are disrupted, the check engine light will activate in the Ranger.
