A 2004 BMW X3 with the optional 3.0L V6 engine should use synthetic 5W-30 motor oil, but can also use synthetic 5W-40. The total oil capacity, including the filter, is 6.6 US quarts. The oil drain plug needs a 17mm socket for removal, and if using a torque wrench, set it to 25 ft-lbs. If you opt for a professional oil change at a shop, it will cost you roughly $110 to $140.
