If your 2004 Ford F-350 diesel engine cranks but won't start, it might be due to damaged wiring leading to the high-pressure fuel pump. The wiring could be rubbed or worn, causing the pump to fail. To fix this issue, the damaged wires must be located and repaired. Many owners have experienced this issue before. When you switch the ignition on (but don't start the engine), you should hear the fuel pump prime for a couple of seconds before shutting off. This priming sound should occur every time you turn the key to the "run" position. If the pump is not priming (you don't hear it humming from the tank), the engine won't start.

The issue is likely related to the starter system rather than the diesel engine, suggesting a potential problem with the starter system itself.
