The recommended coolant for a 2000 Chevy Impala is Prestone Dex-Cool Extended Life 50/50 Antifreeze and Coolant. To change the coolant, start by locating the radiator under the hood. The radiator is situated at the front of the engine compartment and is connected to a clear or black plastic container, which is the coolant reservoir. This reservoir has a drain plug, a fill plug, and a dipstick for measuring the coolant level. If you're simply topping up the coolant, check the level and add more as needed. If you plan to flush the system, open the drain plug to allow the coolant to flow out into a bucket. You can use water to assist with flushing, pouring it into the reservoir. Once the water drains out mostly clean, close the drain plug, fill the reservoir to the appropriate level indicated by the dipstick, then replace the cap securely.
