The recommended transfer case fluid for a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 is ATF+4, and it requires about 1.25 quarts. You can opt for the Mopar 68218057AB version, priced at approximately $9.25 per bottle. To change the fluid, start by using a 10mm hex key to take out the aluminum plug. Remember to first remove the fill plug, fill it with ATF-4 through the hole, then make sure to seal the plug threads with liquid Teflon before reattaching it. When tightening, keep the torque under 40 pounds per foot.
