The 2014 Chevy Silverado equipped with the EcoTec or any FlexFuel engine can run on either regular gasoline or E85. A fuel system sensor automatically adjusts the engine settings to accommodate these fuel options. Never use diesel fuel in your vehicle unless you have a diesel engine in a 2500 series or larger model. Chevy advises using an octane rating of 87 or higher, but I suggest opting for the highest possible octane rating within your budget. Higher octane levels burn cleaner in your engine, reducing carbon buildup. Top tier fuels containing detergents can also help clean sludge from your engine.

For most 2014 Silverado trucks, Chevy suggests using regular unleaded gas rated at 87 octane or higher, except for models equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine, which require premium unleaded gas rated at 91 octane or higher.
