For the 2005 Nissan Altima, the recommended oil is SAE 5W-30. When buying oil, be sure to check for the API certification logo on the bottle. In colder climates reaching 0F, consider using SAE 10W-30 or SAE 10W-40. To determine the oil capacity for your vehicle, refer to the specifications: the QR25DE engine requires 4.5 quarts with a filter and 4.25 quarts without, while the VQ35DE engine holds 4.5 quarts with a filter and 4.25 quarts without.

The two engine choices for the 2005 Nissan Altima, the 2.5L inline-4 and the 3.5L V6, both need 4.4 quarts of 5W30 synthetic oil (recommended) or 10W30/10W40 synthetic oil (alternatively).

Use 5W-20 regular oil without skimping on the filter. Change it every 3,000 miles for optimal performance. Floor the gas pedal frequently to clear it out, and I use racing spark plugs for increased power.
