For optimal performance, make sure to use a synthetic blend of 5W-20 in the 2006 Ford F-150 with the 5.4 Triton engine, such as Motorcraft's Syn Blend 5-20 Pen Plat, filling up about 7 quarts. If you stick to the recommended synthetic oil, plan to change it every 7,000 miles; if you opt for conventional oil, do it every 3,000 miles. Remember to change the filter as well, using the Ford-approved Motorcraft part number FL-820-S. When changing the filter, you'll need a 16mm or 5/8 inches oil drain plug size. Properly recycle your old oil and avoid disposing of it in the trash.
