The Ford Escape requires 5W-20 synthetic oil and can hold 7 quarts. Before changing the oil, ensure the car has been turned off and parked for a few hours to avoid getting burned by the hot oil. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the engine. Place a bucket beneath the plug and remove it to let the oil drain. Allow the oil to fully drain, which may take about an hour. Once it's done dripping, replace the drain plug and find the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Fill the oil pan using a funnel, ensuring not to overfill. It's okay to be slightly underfilled, as overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn off. Once filled, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're done.

In 2016, the recommended oil for a Ford Escape is SAE 5W-20 full synthetic oil. The amount of oil required depends on the engine used. For the 1.5L four-cylinder engine, it needs 4.3 quarts of oil. If the car has a 2.0L engine, it will require 5.7 quarts. Meanwhile, the 2.5L engine uses SAE 5W-20 oil and needs 5.7 quarts.

The information provided regarding the engine's oil capacity is inaccurate. According to the official Ford Technical Specifications for a 2017 Ford Escape, all engine options - the 2.5 L iVCT T-4, 1.5 L EcoBoost I-4, and the Twin scroll 2.0 L Ecoboost I-4 - require 5.7 liters of 5W20 oil (I would recommend using synthetic) along with a new filter during an oil change.

    Powertrain warranty

My understanding is that you are looking for a rephrased and unique version of the phrase "powertrain warranty." Is that right?

Certainly! Excessive amounts of oil, totaling 7 quarts, will inevitably escape from your engine, leading to leaks in areas such as valve covers and gaskets. Only use the necessary amount of oil and no more.

The 2017 Ford Escape Titanium with a 2.0-liter turbo engine specifies the use of 5W-30 oil as indicated on the oil cap.

  • Sharon C

If you have a Ford Escape with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine, be sure to refer to your manual. My manual recommends using 5W30 oil because using 5W20 could potentially harm the turbocharged engine by causing the oil to become too thin.

So I've got a 2017 model with a 2.0 engine, and when I pour in 5.7 quarts of oil, it only gets to the bottom of the crosshatched area on the dipstick. It seems like it needs about 7 quarts to reach the top of the recommended range. Something doesn't add up here – it could be a mislabeled dipstick or a mistake in the engine's oil capacity specifications.
