The Ford Escape requires different types of oil based on the car's year. The most common oil type is 5w-20 and the average capacity is 4.5 quarts. Before changing the oil, ensure that the vehicle has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to avoid burning yourself on hot oil in the engine. Locate the oil pan and drain plug underneath the car, position a bucket underneath, and remove the plug to allow the oil to drain. Wait until it stops dripping, usually about an hour. Replace the drain plug, find the intake port on top of the oil pan, and use a funnel to fill it with oil, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to be a little under the full mark, but overfilling could cause leaks and oil burn off. Once filled, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're done.
