The Dodge Ram 2500 requires SAE 15W-40 motor oil, and Dodge recommends using synthetic oil whenever you need to replace it. Two main types of oil available today are synthetic and conventional. Conventional oil is the traditional option derived from petroleum, while synthetic oil is a newer technology designed to offer enhanced wear protection and longer oil life. This means you can go up to 7,500 miles between synthetic oil changes, versus 3,500 to 5,000 miles with conventional oil. It's essential to inspect your oil monthly to ensure it remains clean and undamaged.

In my 2020 Ram 2500 HD with a 6.4-liter gas engine, I use 0W-40 motor oil.

Pennzoil ultra platinum 0w-40 is the exclusive oil recommended for the 6.4L gas engine. The owner's manual provides the lubrication specification number, which is only found on the Pennzoil label that also features SRT. Amsoil is the sole other manufacturer currently offering an oil with the same spec number, MS-12633. If this number is not on the label, the oil is not suitable for your HEMI engine.

It's not advisable to recommend using 15w40 oil in the new 6.4 engine. The oil passages are small, and using a thicker oil like 15w40 could lead to clogging. Stick to the manufacturer's recommendation of 0w40 to avoid any issues with the engine.

I purchased a brand new 2500 6.7 truck and checked the manual. It advised using 10w-30 oil for temperatures above 0F and 5w-40 synthetic oil for temperatures below 0F. I personally recommend using synthetic oil for both temperature ranges.

I swear by Shell Rotella 15W40 for my Dodge 5.9 diesel truck - it outperforms any other diesel oil I've used before.

Various engine sizes, different model years, and the choice between gas or diesel fuels. It's advisable to disregard any opinions and refer to the specific Owners manual for your year and engine type. That's my plan of action.

The recommended oil for the 2020 Dodge Ram 2500 is 1 quart of SAE 0W-20 full synthetic motor oil.

My 2021 Dodge Ram with a diesel engine just came back from the dealership after an oil change. They used 10W30 Rotella oil, but I'm not certain if it's synthetic.
