The 2008 Subaru Forester requires synthetic oil with a recommended viscosity of sae 5w-30. When changing the oil in the vehicle, it is essential to ensure that the car has been parked and turned off for a few hours to allow the engine to cool down. Working on a hot engine can result in burns, so it's crucial to be cautious. Locate the oil pan in the engine bay and find the drain plug on the underside. Place a bucket under the plug, remove it, and let the oil drain completely, which may take up to an hour. Once the dripping stops, replace the drain plug and find the intake port on the top of the oil pan. Use a funnel to refill the oil pan to the full mark, ensuring not to overfill. It's better to be slightly underfilled than overfilled to prevent leaks and oil burn off. After filling it up, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you are done with the oil change.
