The 2005 Nissan Maxima requires SAE 5W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil and has a 5-quart capacity. When changing the oil in the car, ensure the vehicle has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to let the engine cool down. Locate the oil pan and drain plug under the engine compartment. Place a bucket below the plug and remove it to allow the oil to drain completely. Wait until it stops dripping, which may take about an hour. Replace the drain plug and then find the oil intake port on the top of the oil pan. Fill the oil pan using a funnel, making sure not to overfill. It's okay to have a slightly lower level, but overfilling can cause leaks and oil burn-off. Once filled, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and your oil change is complete.

I've owned a 2005 Nissan Maxima SE for seven years with 136,225 miles on it. The car runs really well and is in great condition. Recently, I discovered that it requires 5W-30 oil, despite my belief that it needed 10W-40.

If your car has high mileage, you can't go wrong using a full synthetic 5w 30 oil along with an oil stabilizer.
