In 2007, the Toyota Highlander requires either sae 5w-20 or 0w-20 motor oil for different driving conditions – the former for regular use and the latter for cold weather. Before changing the oil in the car, ensure that the vehicle has been parked and turned off for a couple of hours to avoid getting burned by the hot oil. Locate the oil pan in the engine compartment, find the drain plug underneath, position a bucket beneath it, and remove the plug to allow the old oil to drain out. Wait until the dripping stops, which could take about an hour. Replace the drain plug, find the intake port on the top of the oil pan, and use a funnel to refill the oil pan to the recommended level, being careful not to overfill. It's okay to have a little less than full, but exceeding the limit can cause leaks and oil burn-off. Once filled, close the port, clean up any spilled oil, and you're done.
