Motorcraft SAE 5W-20 is recommended as the top choice for the 2012 Ford Escape's engine. An alternative oil is acceptable if it meets Ford's WSS-M2C945-A standards and matches the viscosity rating. Both synthetic blend and full synthetic oils are suitable. It's advised to monitor the oil level monthly and change it when prompted by the message center, staying within 10,000 miles or 12 months. The 2.5L I4 engine requires 5.3 quarts of oil and uses a MOTORCRAFT FL-910S filter, while the 3.0L V6 engine needs 6.0 quarts and a MOTORCRAFT FL-500-S filter. To reset the oil life indicator, switch the ignition to Run and press the setup button until the oil life percent displays. Hold the reset button for 2 seconds, then release to reset the oil life to 100%.
