In the 2014 Kia Optima, there were two different engine options: a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4Cylinder and a 2.4L 4Cylinder. The 2.0T engine needs 5.3 quarts of SAE 5W-30 full synthetic motor oil, but you can temporarily use SAE 5W-40 as a substitute. The 2.4L engine requires 5.3 quarts of SAE 5W-20 full synthetic oil, but you can use SAE 5W-30 for short periods. It's important to note that using substitutes with higher viscosities is not recommended for extended periods, as thinner oil is preferred to reduce friction in the system and prevent premature engine wear and tear.

The owner's manual suggests using 5w20 oil, but it also states that 5w20 or 5w30 can be used interchangeably. While 5w20 improves fuel efficiency, 5w30 provides better protection and does not have a significant impact on fuel economy. The difference between the two will likely go unnoticed.

For the 2014 Optima with a 2.0L engine, Kia suggests using SAE 5W-30 motor oil (API SM / ILSAC GF-4). If it has a 2.4L engine, it is recommended to use 5W-20 oil according to Kia.
