The type of oil your Chevrolet Cobalt requires will vary based on the year and trim level of your car. Normally, Chevy vehicles come from the factory with A5W-30 synthetic oil, and the 2.2L engine will require just over 5 quarts, including the filter. It is recommended to change the oil in your Cobalt at 7,500 miles or once a year, if you are using the suggested synthetic oil. If you are using conventional oil, it is best to change it every 3,000 miles or every six months.
I stick with the usual 5w30 oil and Lucas products for my 2007 Chevy Cobalt that I drive daily and am putting a lot of miles on. Based on my experience, I suggest using Castrol Edge High Mileage oil along with Lucas High Mileage oil stabilizer.
The recommended oil for a Chevy Cobalt is the STP 5W-30 high mileage engine oil, which comes in a 5-quart container. It has the part number STPHME5W305Q and costs $18.99.
