Your 2010 Volvo XC60 could come with one of three different engines. The turbocharged 3.0 liter 6-cylinder engine requires 7.8 quarts of SAE 0W-30 full synthetic motor oil, while both 3.2L engine options also need 7.8 quarts of the same type of oil. In moderate climates, you can use SAE 5W-30 oil (as long as temperatures don't drop below -35 degrees Fahrenheit) or even SAE 5W-40, although it's not recommended for long-term use. Thicker oil creates more friction in your engine, leading to premature wear and potential early engine failure. While switching to SAE 5W-30 full synthetic oil is acceptable, using 5W-40 comes with a caution - only use it if there are no better oil alternatives.
Volvo suggests using SAE 5W-30 oil for the 2010 XC60, but for very hot or very cold conditions, it's best to go with synthetic oils like SAE 0W-30 or 0W-40.
