Your 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI originally uses a synthetic SAE 5W-40 motor oil from the factory. While there has been debate about synthetic versus conventional CF4 oil for these cars, my personal suggestion is to opt for the Mobil One Truck and SUV, which can last for over 10,000 miles without any issues. When it's time to change the oil, you will need 4.75 quarts to fully refill it, including the filter. Therefore, a 5-quart jug should be enough to properly do the job.
