The 2002 Kia Rio was equipped with a 1.5 L 4-cylinder DOHC engine as standard on all trims, with no option for an upgrade. The engine requires 3.4 US quarts of motor oil. The type of oil recommended depends on the climate. For temperatures above 84 degrees Fahrenheit, 10W-40 oil is recommended; for normal weather, use 10W-30. In freezing temperatures, it is advised to use 20W-40 or 20W-20 oil.
