I encountered the same issue before, and the solution can be found in this video. Simply navigate to the 0:41 timestamp where you will see a power switch next to the lift gate. If the switch is turned off, the lift gate will only operate with the key or dashboard controls, not on the liftgate itself. Just switch it back on.
