The 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 gave customers three transmission options to choose from. By checking the body code plate, located under the passenger seat or on the front of the radiator closure panel, you can identify what transmission is in the truck. Look at the top row of the plate, and the 3rd set of digits will be in three letters. If it shows DDC, then the Ram is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, specifically the New Venture Gear (NVG) 3500 transmission. If the code is DGK, the truck comes with a 4-speed automatic transmission known as the 42RE. Meanwhile, if the code is DGT, the truck is fitted with the 46RE 4-speed automatic transmission. Remember to change the fluid and filter in the automatic transmission every 30,000 miles, while the manual transmission fluid should be inspected and replaced as necessary.
