Chevy has announced a recall for select 2014 to 2019 Chevy Silverado trucks due to paint problems such as premature chipping and peeling. The issue arises from the use of incorrect paint during production. If you own one of the affected models, Chevy will provide a complimentary new paint job. To determine your eligibility for this recall, you can check their website or visit a dealership. If you qualify, you will receive a free full paint job for your truck.

I own a 2014 Silverado High Country in Pearl White. The paint is coming off on the back doors and now near the windshield. I'm wondering if there's a recall for this issue. I've reached out to GM multiple times for assistance without success.

I got my brand new 2021 Chevy Silverado last December, and now the entire front bumper is covered in chips. It's got white spots all over it. Anyone else experiencing this problem?

I own a 2015 Silverado 1500 truck, and the paint is starting to peel. I'm wondering if there is a recall for this issue so I can have it fixed. The truck only has 75,000 miles on it. How can I check if there is a recall for this?

  • Bev

I contacted the Chevrolet dealership about my car's paint chipping issue, and they informed me that there was no recall for it.

  • Irving Y

I have a 2014 Silverado High Country in diamond white color, but there's peeling paint on the rear driver's side door, just like my neighbor's truck. Are there any recalls or class action lawsuits related to this issue that I can be a part of?

  • Melvin D.

How can we go about submitting a claim to have the truck's paint repaired?

  • Booker M.

The paint on the hood and roof of my 2005 GMC Sierra 2500 HD is peeling. I believe this is unfair, and I am requesting a new paint job for my truck as there seems to be an issue with the current paint job.

  • Johnie L

In 2014, my Silverado's silver paint started bubbling on the door and roof above the windshield about a year ago. Despite being well cared for, well maintained, and parked in a garage every single night, the paint issue occurred with no damage, just bubbling and flaking in the same spots as others I have seen online. I took the truck to the Chevy dealer, who acknowledged that it was not normal and verified that there was no rust or chips. I provided a Chevy paint recall/bulletin number, but after checking, they said my VIN was not affected. I am frustrated with this situation and feel like the paint should not be flaking off. As a loyal customer, I expect proper customer service, not this dismissive attitude. I am considering parting ways with GM altogether.

2014 Silverado crew cab in summit white color. There is peeling on both rear doors and the right side of the bed is starting to yellow and appear dull. It seems like I will need to get it repainted.

  • Eleanor Ormand

Certainly! A particular type of paint used on specific models was found to be defective and easily chipped, leading to a recall for repainting.

  • Sean D

I just contacted GM customer service and they claimed to have no knowledge of any issues with paint peeling or any recalls for it. The representative said it was the first time they had heard of this problem. It's frustrating that we seem to be left to deal with this issue on our own. The paint is literally peeling off in large sheets on my 2014 Silverado High Country, a truck that cost $53,000 and is now valued at only $10,000 due to the paint problems. My truck hasn't even hit 50,000 miles yet. What is GM planning to do to help everyone affected by this issue?

  • Candis R

The paint on my 2004 Silverado 1500 is chipping and coming off.

  • Manuel B.

The 2021 Silverado with a Duramax engine is showing some chips on the front bumper and rear fenders. It has only been driven 10,000 kilometers.

  • Kenneth Raw

I've got a 2020 bright red paint job that's covered in huge paint chips all over the place, even in spots that shouldn't be getting chipped. There's definitely an issue with the paint job on this car.

  • Ami

Chevrolet is a laughingstock, with reports of the paint peeling off both wheel wells, large flakes chipping away, and them attributing it to rock chips. It's outrageous that a two-year-old truck would require repainting. Chevrolet has lost my business - I typically buy a new truck every three years, replacing 15-20 trucks annually for my fleet. Well done, Chevrolet, no wonder you're seen as a joke in the automotive industry. Chevrolet can go jump in a lake.

  • Leona D.

We own a 2014 Chevy Silverado Z71, and the paint has chipped all over the truck. I was curious if there was a recall for this paint issue, and I'm relieved to hear that there is.

  • Mastermind Kustoms

I own a 2013 Chevy Silverado crew cab, and it's got a major issue with the paint job. The silver paint on the roof is peeling off, and it's definitely a defective paint job.

  • Alex miramontes

I own a 2019 Silverado truck, and the paint is peeling off the fenders. Can someone tell me the specific recall code so I can search for more information?

  • Chris E

Here is a paraphrased and unique response as an American:

I own a 2015 Silverado LTZ. A couple of years back, the paint started peeling off the rear door. I paid my deductible for it to be repaired. Now, a similar issue is occurring on the other rear door and near the windshield. The dealership informed me that this is not covered by Chevy's warranty and there's no recall in place. Any advice on how to proceed?

  • Richardmiller

I need to fix an issue with my boss's 2020 Silverado printing.

  • Dale Bryant

I own a 2020 Silverado ltz that I purchased in September. There are several spots on my truck where the paint is chipped, cracked, and peeling. It appears that they used the same paint as in previous years.

  • Nicholas E.

I own a 2011 Silverado with four doors, and even though it's only 10 years old, the paint has chipped off in large areas on both front door pillars and above the windshield. Each time I wash it, the problem seems to worsen.

  • Kevin Nieh

My name is Peter G. and I'm experiencing a similar problem with my 2021 Silverado. I purchased it in December, and now the paint on the front bumper is starting to chip off. I plan on bringing it to the dealership tomorrow to have it documented and possibly be referred to GM to see if they can help resolve the issue.

  • RandyT

I own a 2021 trail boss in summit white. It has 1400 miles on it, but there are chips all over the hood, doors, and bed. This makes it the second Silverado in summit white that I've had paint problems with.

  • Motwn

In late 2018, problems with the clear coat and paint on 2017 Chevy Silverado trucks began to arise, leading to chipping and peeling issues.

  • Diana H

I drive a 2014 GMC Sierra, specifically the Texas edition, and I've noticed paint chipping and peeling on various parts like the hood, side fender near the windshield, and around the top of my brake light. There are also areas where the paint is bubbling. I'm not asking for a freebie, I just want GM to address these issues since I invested a lot in my truck.

  • Austin Taylor

In 2020, a Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab with a 6.6-liter gas engine and 5700 miles has a white paint chip on the plastic part around the passenger side headlight, between the headlight and the grille. The chip is now about 1 inch by 2 inches and appears black. The dealership stated that they are unable to address the issue unless it qualifies as an insurance repair.

  • Nurhussein

In 2019, my Chevy Silverado RST with 90,000 kilometers has paint issues on the roof, including bubbling and peeling. There's a class action lawsuit in the US regarding this problem, and that's where my truck was made. Maybe Canadian owners can unite and take legal action against GM for this. It's disappointing and unacceptable!

  • Daniel J

How can I determine if my 2015 Chevy Silverado is eligible for assistance with paint chipping issues? Any information would be greatly appreciated and helpful.

  • Craig M.

I own a 2011 Silverado 2500 z71, and I've noticed that the paint on the hood and tailgate is peeling and chipping. It's so bad that a regular water hose can easily peel it off. Should I just not wash my truck? I believe GM should repaint my truck because the paint issues are quite significant. In addition to the peeling paint, there are other problems with the paint job, but this is my main concern.

  • Gavin A

I believe it's necessary for us to pursue a class action lawsuit against GM because they are refusing to address the widespread problem of the faulty white paint on our 2014 Silverado.

  • Troy K.

Could you kindly provide me with the reference number for the recall?

  • Jon S

I own a 2014 Silverado, and the paint on the back doors is peeling. The Chevrolet dealership stated that there was no recall for this issue. In the future, I may consider purchasing a Ford instead.

  • Mark Henne

I drive a 2021 GMC Sierra, and the front, back bumpers, as well as the sides of the fenders and doors, are experiencing chipping and flaking. I notice new chips and flakes appearing after each drive on paved roads.

  • Aimee N.

I just finished speaking with GM customer service, and they told me they have never heard of paint peeling off. My 2014 Silverado high country with tri-coat paint is now worth only salvage value, as the paint is coming off in sheets. It was in mint condition with less than 50,000 miles before this happened. It's disappointing how GM is not taking care of their customers. Unbelievable!

  • jmecherinterlop

I'm experiencing the same problem with the paint peeling on the doors of my 2014 Silverado in summit white, along the areas where the water flows.

  • Johnson V.

I purchased a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew ltz and have noticed paint peeling all over. It's frustrating to see my well-maintained truck looking so rough, especially after investing a significant amount in it.

  • Alan K.

Silverado 2021. A little over 4 months old. Lots of chips on the hood and along the driver's side. Has 8000 kilometers on it. Looks pretty bad. Chips keep showing up every week.

  • Eva I

2019 Silverado RST with 27,000 miles for sale. Paint is peeling on the front wheel well lip above the front paint protectors.

  • Zoe P.

I own two Chevy Express vans, a 2008 and a 2013, and they both have a serious issue with their paint. The paint is peeling off, which is unacceptable for a 2013 model. This is a significant problem that deserves a class action lawsuit. We paid good money for these vans, so the paint should definitely not be coming off like this. It's clear that Chevy is aware of this paint problem and should take responsibility for it.

  • Caroline R.

Yesterday, on February 10th, 2022, we reached out to Chevrolet and were informed that there is no official recall on file. However, there have been numerous complaints reported.

  • Gary C.

I own a 2020 Silverado 1500 with a Duramax engine in the RST trim. The front bumper paint is starting to chip really badly, leaving white spots all over my black paint job. I am incredibly let down by this situation.

  • Alberto W.

I learned about this issue from an article I read. I've reached out to the author in hopes of receiving more information. I own a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and while it may seem fine at first glance, I would appreciate a professional assessment. You can find more details about the situation at the following link: https://www.thedrive.com/news/44767/gm-knowingly-sold-2015-2019-silverados-and-tahoes-with-bad-paint-lawsuit

Just let me know the text you'd like paraphrased.

  • Joshua C

The cab corners of the crew cab rust, and the hydraulic brake controller is in charge.

  • Pauline J.

In 2017, the Chevy High Country truck has a serious issue with paint peeling at the bed corners and yellowing near the gas port on the pearl white paint. This is a major problem that Chevy needs to address, especially considering their many loyal customers. As a Chevy enthusiast, it is disappointing to see this issue arise. Chevy must take responsibility and make things right for their customers.

  • Oin S

I own a 2016 Suburban LS and recently discovered that the clear coat has deteriorated. If GM is offering to repaint Silverados due to similar issues, they should also repaint Suburbans like mine. The damage resembles scratches and mold spots.

  • Robert Z

In 2015, my Chevy 2500 truck's paint is chipping off on both back doors, even though I take good care of it. This issue should not be happening. Interestingly, I also have a 2014 Ford that has had absolutely no paint problems. Because of this, I am considering buying another Ford for my next truck.

  • Jon N.

I own a 2014 vehicle that I have been seeking assistance for since 2020. I have been told by the support team that they have no record of this issue before. In fact, just today, someone informed me that there is no paint recall because there is no recognized problem. The only lawsuit filed goes back to 2015. Fellow 2014 vehicle owners, maybe we should unite and consider taking legal action!

  • Brenda H

I own a 2015 vehicle and the paint is starting to peel. I'm just looking for some advice on how to handle this situation.

  • LaShone S

The paint on my truck is starting to peel.

  • Mario Hernandez

Our 2015 Silverado is experiencing peeling, and our GMC Sierra 2015 is also showing the same issue in the same spot. Please contact me at 435-225-0309.

  • Greg S.

The clear coat and paint are peeling on the bed of the 2020 Silverado LT truck in several different areas.

  • Nannie J.

The paint on my 2015 white Silverado 2500 is peeling off, even though I've had it since it was brand new. The peeling started happening within just three years of ownership.

  • Socorro R.

My 2014 Silverado 1500 truck has paint peeling off seven separate panels. Both I, my colleagues, and none of my relatives will ever purchase a Chevrolet or GMC vehicle again.

  • Rena C.

I own a 2014 Chevy Pickup truck in Pearl White. The paint is bubbling and peeling off in large patches in three spots: the rear doors and the roof near the third brake light. Can General Motors take care of this issue?

  • Dawn T

Seems to be a widespread issue. The paint on my 2019 Trailboss is peeling off from the wheel wells. The Chevrolet dealer told me I have to handle it myself. Interestingly, my in-laws' 1992 Chevrolet has better paint than mine. I'm wondering if there's been a product recall for this issue?

  • Salena

The paint on the roof of the 2014 Silverado is starting to peel away.

  • Boyd S

My truck has multiple areas where the paint is starting to chip, predominantly on the hood and around the edges of the windshield pillars.

  • Tristen

My car's paint is chipping and peeling off on its own. How can I contact Chevrolet to address this problem?

  • Albert T.

I drive a 2020 white Silverado, and the back bumper is starting to peel on both ends, while the front bumper is a mess.

  • Richard Burns

I own a 2014 Silverado in Summit White. The paint has started peeling off the doors and around the windshield, and now there are rock chips on the anti-chip paint at the bottom that are causing rust on the rocker panels. I reached out to GM about this issue around 100,000 miles ago, but they claimed they had never heard of it. It's frustrating to see so many people experiencing the same problem and yet GM acts like it's a non-issue. It's a complete joke.

  • Omer

The paint on the front of my truck is starting to peel off.

  • Hortencia C

Is there a recall on the 2017 Silverado High Country for the peeling paint above the windshield?

  • King

I own a 2016 Tahoe LTZ that I bought brand new. The clear coat on the hood began to deteriorate in 2020, and soon after, the entire roof showed signs of damage. The situation has gotten progressively worse, but Chevy is unwilling to address the issue. Spending $80,000 on a vehicle should not result in such a poor paint job. I'm extremely let down by this experience.

  • Misty E.

I recently purchased a 2023 Chevy Silverado Trail Boss with under 8000 miles on it. However, I've noticed issues with the paint chipping and the plastic on the vehicle having scratches. Also, the cell service is terrible which makes it difficult to get any explanations regarding the damage, with the response suggesting it's just rock chips and not actual impacts. The lack of concern or assistance from the front fenders of the vehicle makes it seem like they don't care. This experience has left me feeling disappointed, so I advise against buying a Chevy or GMC in the future.

  • Francia

My brother-in-law has a white 2014 General Motors crew cab truck that is peeling down to the primer. It's clear that the paint job has failed to adhere properly. As a retired firefighter who used to work as a head painter, I recall a similar paint issue with Ford vehicles in the mid to late 90s. Ford ended up covering the cost for dealers to strip and repaint those vehicles under warranty. That positive experience is why I now own two almost new Ford vehicles. Sadly, Ford offers a great warranty while General Motors gets the short end of the stick.

  • Moises K

Is it possible to have the faded paint on the back door of my 2014 Silverado, which is black and has never been in an accident, covered by the warranty?

  • Luke R.

Hey y'all, I drive a 2020 Silverado and I'm experiencing some peeling on the front bumper and side top coat. Anyone else facing this problem with their truck?

  • S DR

In 2021, the Chevy Silverado has paint chipping on the hood, bumper, right front fender, and left rear door, as well as a small brown rust spot visible.

  • Marcelo B

The 2021 Silverado 1500 double cab is experiencing paint deterioration on its rear bumper.

  • Bernadette G.

I purchased a white 2014 Silverado crew cab in 2015 and have noticed peeling on the rear driver's door at the bottom left corner of the window and now on the top left corner of the roof. It appears to be a defect from the manufacturer. I am considering switching to a Toyota truck in the future. I have not yet filed a complaint with GM, but I anticipate receiving an unhelpful response if I do.

  • Jeanette

In 2014, the High Country 1500 with a subterranean brown metallic paint on the left rear quarter panel appears quite unattractive.

  • Joe M.

In 2019, the paint on both front fenders of a Trailboss truck priced at $36,000 is showing signs of peeling.

  • Robert W.

This website is totally worthless, it doesn't provide any useful information at all.

  • Lorraine T.

Pieces of paint have been chipping from the back of my fender on a 2018 Silverado. I was told it's unfortunate. In the past 3 years and after driving for many kilometers, I have never experienced a vehicle losing paint like this before! It's absurd.

  • Bonny D.

I own a 2007 Chevy Silverado, and the clear coat originally started peeling on the hood. But now it's spread to both sides and the top of the truck, making it look like it has leprosy. I'm extremely let down by Chevy and GMC because they are aware of this paint issue across all the model years but have chosen to do nothing about it.

  • John J.

I reached out to Chevrolet regarding the paint issue on my truck, but all they told me was that the vehicle was no longer under warranty.

  • Ladysnoop

My 2019 Silverado is black. As a detailer, I must say that this car has the worst black paint I have ever encountered. There are spots appearing from beneath the paint that cannot be fixed. Additionally, there are chips all over the rear doors and bed. This paint is truly terrible, and this will be the last GM vehicle I ever purchase. From now on, I will be buying a Ford instead.

  • Denis B

I'm sorry to say, but you'll need to cover the cost for repairing my 2016 Chevy Silverado on your own.

  • Juan T

In 2015, the hood of my car has lost almost all of its paint. Can anyone offer assistance?

  • Milagro C

In 2020, my Oxford Brown Silverado 2500HD High Country experienced peeling paint on both bumpers. I took it to the dealership, who took photos and referred me to a body shop for a re-paint estimate. After sending the quote to GM in July, I received a call yesterday from the dealership saying GM would cover the re-paint of the rear bumper, but claimed the front bumper damage was due to rock chips. I disputed this, pointing out that the paint issues started under the parking sensors and spread from there. I provided new photos to the dealership and GM rep clearly showing no missing paint chips. With the truck at 18K miles initially and 21K now, I hope to receive positive news soon. The situation is truly frustrating!

  • Kathy L

I own a 2016 Silverado 2500HD, and the paint is peeling off in two spots on the truck. When I contacted my service manager, they said they couldn't help and there's no recall for this issue.

  • Hailey Z

I own a 2015 GMC Sierra with a similar paint issue. I've been searching online for any recalls but haven't found any. However, I did come across a lawsuit against GMC, so hopefully, I'll get a settlement soon.

  • Bihi

I'm checking to see if there's been a paint recall for my 2015 Silverado.

  • Cassandra P

The white paint on the truck is peeling off from the windshield, cab, doors, hood, and pretty much everywhere you see on the vehicle.

  • Linda A.

I purchased a 2007 Chevy Silverado crew cab, and just 15 days later, the paint started peeling off. I took it back to the dealer, but they told me there was nothing they could do since it was sold "as is." Now, I keep hearing about all these recalls, and everyone I talk to just gives me the runaround. Can you please provide me with a contact number for someone to address this issue?

  • Douglas Connor

I own a 2019 Chevy Silverado, and the paint on my bumper is peeling off, which I didn't realize was an issue. I have had various other problems with the truck, so I believe it may be a lemon. The truck is made in the USA, but it doesn't seem to be worth the amount of money I paid for it.

  • Thomas grinnell

I drive a 2021 RST in Summit white, and unfortunately, I've noticed paint chips on the front bumper, hood, and the panel near the rear tires is really worn. I really like my truck, but this paint problem is terrible. It's frustrating considering I've only put 7,000 miles on it.

  • Nathan T.

In 2020, the red Chevy Silverado trail boss is experiencing paint chipping on the fender flares. The dealership has taken photos and is sending them for approval to fix the issue. Hopefully, everything will work out.

  • Glenn V

The dealership repainted my 1989 truck three times, but it kept fading. Now, in 2022, a lot of it is rusted. I helped my grandfather choose this truck, so I believe they should repaint it for free one more time.

  • Marcia

The white paint on the rear driver's side door of the 2021 GMC 2500 AT4 is peeling, and there appear to be rust spots on the bed and rear fenders of the truck.

  • tesrt

In 2016, the Silverado is experiencing peeling and bubbling issues.

  • Kat Rhodes

In late 2013, I purchased a diamond white Silverado LTZ with a 6.2L engine. Unfortunately, the paint between the windshield and sunroof has bubbled and chipped off. When I contacted the dealership about it, they informed me that since it's beyond a 5-year period from when it was new, it isn't covered. However, I bought this truck two years ago as a certified pre-owned vehicle.

  • Louise Baker

I drive a 2013 Silverado and the paint on the roof has started peeling. I reached out to the dealer and GM, but they informed me that there is no recall for this issue.

  • Valik

I recently made the switch to a different brand in 2019, the Ltrailboss. My vehicle, which has 41000 kilometers on it, is experiencing peeling around the wheel wells and rock chips covering all four doors. It appears that even a quick glance at a dirt road results in some form of damage.

  • Jeffrey Fortman

My 2015 Malibu is in bad shape, I am really angry about it. The paint is getting scratched too easily and the top is bubbling in certain areas due to an obvious defect. This is not acceptable. Despite being a beautiful car, I just want the paint to stay nice. I am beyond frustrated - there are new scratches appearing every day, even though I take great care of my vehicle.

  • Amelia A.

My 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD is experiencing peeling paint issues.

  • Jake K.

The paint is uneven and the streaks cannot be removed by buffing.

  • DON Taylor

I own a 2018 Cajun Red Z71 extended cab 1500 with a front bumper and grille that's completely painted, no chrome. It looks like it's been hit by a shotgun, with paint peeling off the doors despite only driving on the streets, not gravel roads. There seems to be a problem with this paint job!

  • sofia

The hood and cab roof have lost their paint completely, not just the clear coat. This is a result of poor paint quality and automated spray application.

  • Tracy B

The 2020 Silverado Trail Boss LT in Northsky Blue has chipped paint on the bed and fenders on both sides, as well as on the front and rear black bumpers. It seems to get new chips every week despite only having 34,000 miles on it.

  • Rodney J

I own a 2012 Chevy Silverado 1500 in pearl color with an extended cab, and the paint is peeling off the roof and front of the hood. It's unbelievable! Serra Chevrolet dealership refuses to address the issue.

  • Linda I

In 2017, the Silverado is experiencing bubbling clear coat issues on the cab and doors.
