You can adjust the fan speed by manually changing the resistance of the blower resistor using a lever or through the vehicle's air conditioning system. A common sign of a faulty blower motor resistor is when the heater fan only operates at the highest speed setting, like 4 or 5, and fails to work at lower speeds. In some vehicles, a malfunctioning blower motor resistor may even cause the heater fan to completely stop working.
