The 2001 Ford Taurus has a coolant temperature sensor located at the front top of the engine close to the distributor. This sensor, also called the coolant temperature switch, is part of the engine management system and monitors the coolant temperature. Typically, coolant temperature sensors work by using electrical resistance to gauge the coolant temperature. If you notice your vehicle using more gas than usual or see black smoke from the exhaust, it could be a sign that the coolant temperature sensor is faulty and needs replacement. Difficulty starting your vehicle after it has warmed up may also indicate a problem with the coolant temperature sensor and should be checked.

I am trying to find videos on locating the temperature sensor for a 2001 Ford Taurus SEL 3.0 L. I have noticed that in the videos I found, it only shows the gauge temperature and temperature sensor positioned next to each other. However, in my case, the sensors are separate.
