The 2004 V8 version of the Volkswagen Touareg is well known for triggering error code P0118; if that's why you're here, you're not alone. If it's a different issue, I apologize for assuming it was related to your German engineering skills; I'll be more careful next time! In the V8 setup, there are two separate coolant temperature sensors, and they both tend to fail at similar rates. One is situated on the front passenger's side near the bottom of the radiator. The other one is located between the engine and the firewall, close to the top center of the engine. While accessing this one may be tricky, you can trace the hoses leading to it by following them towards the firewall.
