The 2004 Kia Sorento's ECM is situated on the driver's side of the firewall in the engine bay close to the battery. It is crucial to disconnect the battery before attempting to remove or replace the ECM. Removing the ECM requires taking out the battery and air cleaner assembly to gain access. After removing these components, you can loosen the mounting bolts to extract the ECM from its housing unit. The ECM is a relatively costly component, with prices ranging from $800 to $1100, depending on whether it is an aftermarket or OEM unit. At times, the ECM may require new software to be programmed into the vehicle, so it is advisable to have this task done by a dealership or a knowledgeable Kia mechanic for added safety.
