The purge valve, also known as the evap canister, for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is situated above the muffler in the back. This component is a key part of the Evaporative Emission Control (EVAP) system. The purpose of this system is to prevent fuel vapors produced in the fuel tank from escaping into the air by capturing them in a charcoal canister. As the engine operates normally, the EVAP system gradually releases these vapors into the engine, where they are burned like regular fuel. The canister purge valve manages the flow of these vapors, determining when and how much enters the engine. The most common issues with the purge valve occur when it is stuck in an open or closed position, or fails to open at the correct time.
It's located in the right rear wheel well, to be exact.
