The EVAP vent solenoid keeps track of the airflow needed for the Silverado's EVAP charcoal canister to efficiently handle emissions. If it malfunctions or needs to be switched out, drivers will experience a rise in engine pressures because the solenoid no longer signals the release and buildup of vapors. This will trigger the "check engine" light to come on, and the truck will probably fail an emissions test. To find the sensor, check the top of the fuel tank, but you'll need to remove the truck bed to reach it. GMC has actually issued a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) outlining the replacement of the vent solenoid for Chevrolet Silverado models from 1999 to 2007. As part of the repair, the air filter box must be relocated. This issue is commonly identified by the DTC P0446 error code, indicating a "Restricted/Blocked Evap Vent Path.
