The Ford SYNC system module is situated on the right side of the cabin, near the passenger. To reach it, you'll need to lower the glove box and take it out completely. You'll find the module to the right of the air conditioning unit and behind the TPMS/RKE system. To disconnect it, look for the black wire harness connected to a gray release lever or handle known as the "apim canbus connector." Between the harness and lever, there should be a gray tab. Press down on this tab and turn the lever to free the SYNC module from the harness. Once removed, remove the connector cover to access the wire ports for re-attachment. Connect the blue and red wires to the new unit and then follow the steps in reverse to reinstall it. The SYNC software should now recognize voice-activated commands.
