The fuel filter in the 2005 Kia Sportage is situated inside the fuel pump module, and it is considered a non-serviceable part according to the manufacturer. Essentially, this means that the fuel filter can endure for the car's entire lifetime, so there is no need for maintenance. The only instance when the part is changed is during the replacement of the fuel pump module that is connected to the fuel filter. If you experience problems with the fuel filter or fuel pump, indications may include difficulty starting the engine, hesitation when accelerating, prolonged idling and stuttering, and decreased fuel efficiency alongside engine misfires. To access the fuel pump and filter, you will need to take out the gas tank and then remove the back seat to reach the fuel pump module.

Underneath the left side rear seat, you will need to unscrew and disconnect two fuel lines and electrical connections to access the pump. It can be difficult to pull the pump up and out of the tank. You can find a replacement pump for $80 on Amazon, which might come as a pleasant surprise!
