So, are you saying that in order to replace the fuel filter, I also have to replace the whole fuel pump as well? I've been using bioethanol in my FX35 with 170,000 miles, and it struggles to start in the winter. I'm thinking about changing the fuel filter to see if that helps.

Instead, it has a filter sock located on the distal side of the pump inside the tank. You can replace the filter sock or the pump, which typically includes a new sock, without having to replace the entire tank. Replacing the tank would be a major task for this car. To replace the filter, you just need to remove the rear seat bottom (using the release buttons), the access cover, and then the retainer ring holding the pump/fuel level sender assembly on the tank.
