This relay, along with others like the headlight closure relay, serves to protect the driver by separating high amperage and voltage systems. Headlight closure relays are crucial for operating headlights, especially in cars with flip-up lights that fold out from the vehicle's body. A common sign of a faulty headlight closure relay is the headlights not opening. If the relay malfunctions, it won't supply power for the headlight motors to open the headlights, although the headlight bulbs may still work. This results in the headlights remaining closed and unable to provide illumination for the driver.
