In the 2003 Jeep Liberty, instead of using a heater valve, the cabin's temperature is controlled by a blend door actuator. This actuator is situated behind the passenger's side airbag and glove compartment, above the HVAC unit, and requires access from the top of the dashboard. If the blend door is malfunctioning, the heat in the cabin may be lukewarm or distributed unevenly, a clicking noise may be noticed during start-up, and the air might blow erratically. Other factors that could lead to insufficient or inconsistent cabin temperature include a faulty thermostat, low coolant levels, or leaking radiator hoses. Typically, replacing the blend door actuator in the Liberty costs around $300 to $400, inclusive of parts and labor.

The heater control valve on the 2003 Jeep Liberty is located close to the firewall.

The heater core doesn't have a valve; instead, it's regulated by a door and activator. It's a shame that they didn't design a removable panel on the firewall. I believe I could easily cut a hole, remove the core, and replace it in half the time it would take to dismantle the entire dashboard. It's puzzling why one would drop the gas tank in a 1990 Thunderbird to replace a pump when you could simply cut a hole under the back seat.
